Policies and Procedures

Circulation Policy:
Students may check out two books at a time for two weeks.  Overdue fines are $.05 per day, excluding holidays and weekends.  We use the Follett Destiny Library Service to check out books.

Scheduling Classes:
If you need ideas for creative activities and research projects I will assist you in developing meaningful assignments.  The media specialist and teacher should collaborate on instructional activities prior to classes being brought to the Media Center.  In an effort to better serve you and the students, Media Center time must be scheduled 48 hours in advance.  I will work with your classes on Information Literacy Skills using both electronic and print resources.  Classes will be scheduled in 45-minute blocks only.

Computer Lab:
There are three computer labs, one is located in the Media Center and the other two are located on the Tech wing of the high school.  You must schedule the computer lab 48 hours in advance.  The computer lab is an extension of a teacher's class, therefore, you must monitor your students' activities on the computers at all times.  Remember to shut down the computers, replace the chairs under the desks, and clean up before leaving.

Student Behavior: You are responsible for your student's behavior in the Media Center and Computer Labs.  Students should be respectful of other classes that may be scheduled in the Media Center at the same time.  Teachers should not, at any time, leave students unsupervised.  Please be sure that students clean up behind themselves before they leave the Media Center/Computer Lab.  Any class causing constant disruption to other Media Center patrons will be asked to return to its classroom.

Sending Students to the Media Center:
Teachers are allowed to send groups of no more than five (5) students to the Media Center.  Students should be sent to the Media Center with a pass when they have Media Center or computer related assignments to complete.  If students are not on task, they will be sent back to class.  Students should not be sent to the Media Center for more than 20 minutes at a time.  Substitutes may not send students to the Media Center.  When the student arrives, he/she will sign in and give the pass to the Media Center staff.  We do not write passes for students to go other places.

Computers and Printers:
Students and teachers must abide by the Acceptable Use Policy and Student Handbook guidelines when using the computers.  The printer/copier in the library is for student use only.
